Recently, our client Geomarine announced the completion of the Rottnest Berth 4&5 Reconstruction.
For the uninitiated, Rottnest is a tourist island that lies 18kms off Fremantle. It receives thousands of visitors of year, primarily by ferries.
As you can imagine, there is significant importance in a functioning, robust jetty to handle the high volume of daily arrivals and departures.
We were engaged by Geomarine to provide design and documentation for the steel piling, precast headstocks/deck panels, fendering and services requirements on the project.
Working to a tight schedule, there were some interesting challenges met along the way. For starters, the jetty was constructed with precast concrete, not poured in situ as is typically the case.
There were also numerous design revisions and iterations to accomodate what not many people saw coming… multiple procurement issues associated with what has become a global supply chain deficiency.
It meant that our involvement was a fluid, dynamic process to assist the client meet the delivery schedule.
Congratulations to Geomarine and everyone involved on a project that will, as a piece of infrastructure, play an integral part in enhancing the experience of countless Rottnest visitors each year.
